Creating content that leads to conversions and loyal followers is a task that, while rewarding, can take up valuable time and resources.
Since everyone knows that time is money, companies would be better served by finding a way to streamline their content creation all while keeping a focus on real results.
We can show you how to do exactly that with just a few steps. Shall we?
Decide What Your Goal Is
It’s been said to always begin with the end in mind in order to set yourself up for success. This is certainly one of those times.
Before you start creating your content, you have to clearly define your goal so you can decide the best kind of content to accomplish it. Unsure what your goal should be? Consider one of these:
Improve Your SEO Ranking
Perhaps you want to be one of the first results on a Google search? If so, you need to focus on content that includes top keywords and SEO tools. This content would include blogs, useful lists, and detailed guides.
Increase Your Link Building
If you want other websites to include a link to your website, you need to create content that they’d actually want to reference and share.
This is a great goal for any company needing to build the public’s trust in their brand and their credibility.
Boost Sales and Conversions
If you’re hoping to create content that encourages the reader to take action and commit to a purchase, you’re going to want to focus on clear and engaging copywriting that inspires movement.
Social media engagement can be the difference between success or failure for a business these days so this should probably be one of your goals at all times.
Posting relevant content can certainly help with this effort and would include infographics, polls, videos, and guest posts.
Educate Your Audience
As you start to be seen as an expert in your field, you’ll have more followers who look to you for information.
If this becomes your goal, you’ll want to create content that teaches them about any given subject that may be relevant to them.
No matter what your goal is now, it will likely continue to evolve as your business does so don’t feel as though you’re married to your choice.
What doesn’t have to necessarily change is your system to streamline your content which we’ll cover next.
How to Streamline Your Content Creation?
Streamlining your content comes down to having a thorough understanding of who you’re creating content for and what you want your business to be known for.
Once this is decided, you’ll be able to systemize the rest of the process.
Define Your Buyer Persona
The best way to do this is by first creating a buyer persona based on who your target audience is. Create an avatar and fully flesh them out by answering the following questions:
- What’s their name?
- What’s their gender?
- Where do they live?
- How old are they?
- What are their pain points?
- What makes them happy?
- Are they facing a challenge right now?
- What are their goals in life?
- What kind of solution are they looking for?
- How would they want to be spoken to?
- What kind of content would they be looking for?
Take the time to answer this list in its entirety and then keep it handy at all times so you can refer to it when making decisions about content.
If you’re considering something that doesn’t fit into this buyer’s persona, you may be on the wrong path.
Define Your Brand Pillars
The next step is to clearly define your brand’s pillars. These are the 3-5 topics that you want your company to be associated with.
These may be based on the products and services that you offer such as business coaching, pet grooming, or golf clubs. Whatever those pillars are, your content should consistently point to them.
After you define your pillars, create a spreadsheet with a column for each pillar and space below to fill in ideas that would help communicate or promote them. Use this as a place to brainstorm and store ideas for future content.
Create Your System
Now that you know who you’re talking to and what you’re talking about, you don’t have to waste time trying to figure those things out and can instead focus on creating a template that can be used over and over again.
This template will be adjusted as needed for whatever content you’re creating but the overall process will remain the same.
Create a template for each of your brand pillars that can be tweaked before publishing. Take your time to create these since you’ll only have to do this once.
Now that you have your templates, create your system or standard operating procedure (SOP).
Clearly define what you’re going to do every time you need to create content starting with what system you’ll open (word processor, designer, social media), and then determine what will happen at every step afterward.
This should be saved in a simple spreadsheet for easy reference and sharing and may include fields such as:
- Create a new file in the proper folder
- Label the type of content to create
- What pillar does this content relate to?
- Create Content
- Keywords Included?
- SEO Details
- Has it been edited?
- Are your images and links sourced?
- Upload to the appropriate platform
- Schedule post
Your list may not look exactly like this but the main thing is to be sure that all of your team understands the importance of using it and that they’re on board with it for all content creation moving forward.
Custom Content, Streamlined
Can you see how easy this process will be moving forward once you go through the steps to create your buyer persona and define your pillars?
Your templates and system will make content creation as natural as breathing now that you and your team have a complete understanding of what you’re trying to accomplish.
Streamlining content is your secret to delivering real results, really fast.
